Color Mixing

Mix light and ideal pigments to explore addition and subtraction.

Light (red, green, blue)
RGB 255 / 255 / 255
Pigment (cyan, magenta, yellow)
RGB 0 / 0 / 0

A simplified teaching model.

Increase all channels: light approaches white while pigments approach black. The same act of mixing can add light or subtract it.

How to play

Move the sliders. Light adds channels; ideal pigments remove the matching channels from white. Auto increases all three amounts together and stops at the endpoint.

RGB gives the strength of red, green and blue on screen, here from 0 to 255. Pigments use ideal channel absorption; real paint also depends on pigments, paper and lighting.
